“Food has always been an important part of my boating experience. Now I want to combine my passions and my food service experience to share these pleasures with others.”

Neal has been passionate about food and sailing all of his adult life. He grew up in an environment rich in the philosophy of serving “Farm to Table” foods, and menus that changed with our seasons. This has led to a career of over 30 years in the food and beverage service industry. He was formally trained in service, working over the years with an array of talented Chefs. He owned and was Chef of two restaurants and has consulted on many more

Neal started sailing in 1973 while living in Hawaii. Over the course of the next 40 years he has owned three boats and has crewed and cooked on many. He skippered day boat charters in Lahaina Maui, cruised Baja California and sailed to and from Hawaii. Currently based out of Ventura, he cruises around the Southern California coast and the Channel Islands.

Julia grew up in the Santa Barbara area, moving from LA with her family at the age of 8. She also spent many of her summers in Idaho on the family farms where she developed an appreciation for homemade food made from the finest and freshest ingredients. Her father built two sailboats while she was growing up, and the family sailed together almost every weekend. After her parents sailed their second boat to La Paz in Mexico, Julia joined them to cruise around the Sea of Cortez. She later joined them for inter-island cruising when they reached Hawaii.

After graduating from SBCC, she owned and managed Pure Gold (a vintage clothing and shoe store) on State Street in Santa Barbara for 21 years. She was active in the Old Town Santa Barbara Merchant’s Association and served as Vice President for two years. Julia loves to share her local knowledge and love of the South Coast- talk to her if you'd like information and suggestions to add to your enjoyment during your visit.

Our Philosophy about Sourcing

We ensure that the produce we offer is as fresh as can be. We pride ourselves on buying fruits and vegetables from many of California’s best farmers. We choose for flavor–not for looks– and we taste each box of fruit and vegetables to make sure every piece meets our standards and tastes great.

We ask all of the questions about how our meat is raised before deciding to offer it to our customers. We are proud to showcase meats from ranchers that possess a reverence for how their animals are raised, treated and processed from start to finish. We source for flavor, succulence and integrity of production. Things we look for when sourcing meat are animals that are pasture-raised, grass-fed, and humanely-treated. We love offering heritage breeds, and our meats are free of hormones and antibiotics.

Our fish sourcing decisions are made with constant attention to sustainability, using the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch guidelines to ensure that no fish we offer is harvested in a manner that is a detriment to our oceans’ precious balance.

We utilize packaging materials that are of the highest quality: locally sourced and manufactured in the US whenever possible, reusable, re-purposed, bio-degradable, compostable and as eco-friendly as we can find.  Our packaging is specifically chosen to support a better environment for all.
